Dr. Corey Francis, DMA, is a music instructor at Nashville State Community College, where he teaches courses in music appreciation, freshman orientation, and saxophone. His teaching emphasizes the development of musicianship and performance techniques, helping students build both critical listening skills and practical performance abilities.
Dr. Francis brings over 15 years of adjudication experience, having evaluated marching and concert ensembles at festivals across Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Missouri, Mississippi, and Tennessee. His adjudication work reflects a commitment to musical excellence, with a focus on ensemble cohesion, tone quality, and expressive performance.
Prior to his current role, Dr. Francis served as Assistant Director of Bands at Eastern Illinois University, where he assisted in directing concert and athletic ensembles, and contributed to the musical and cultural life of the university. He also served as Director of Athletic Bands at Indiana State University, where he led athletic band programs.
Dr. Francis holds a Doctor of Musical Arts in Conducting Pedagogy from the University of Southern Mississippi, a Master of Music in Wind Band Conducting from Georgia State University, and a Bachelor of Music Education from Murray State University. His principal teachers include Thomas Fraschillo, Robert Ambrose, Dennis Johnson, and Scott Erickson, whose mentorship helped shape his approach to conducting and music education.
